Tracking setup for your TV campaign
Before your campaign launches, our team sets up conversion tracking so you can see what your TV ads drive on your website. Most of the work is ours. This guide covers the one thing we need from you: a way to put our tag on your site, which takes a few minutes on any platform.
Do you need a tag at all?
You need a tag on your website if any of these is true:
- You want to count actions on your site that follow your TV ads: purchases, leads, bookings, calls from a web button.
- Your plan includes retargeting (reaching people who already visited your site).
- Your plan includes Performance Extension with website goals.
You do not need one if your campaign is awareness-only with no website goals, or if results are measured another way (foot traffic, phone calls, promo codes). If you are not sure, your campaign manager settles it with you in the setup conversation after payment and before launch. Nothing airs until measurement is agreed.
Path A: you already use Google Tag Manager
Add our team to your container and we do the rest. Three steps, about two minutes.
- Sign in at tagmanager.google.com and open the container for your website (the one whose ID starts with GTM-).
- Go to Admin, then User Management in the Container column. Choose Add users, enter analytics@rambunctious.tv, set Container permissions to Publish, and send the invitation.
- Tell your campaign manager it is done, in your Campaign Desk.
What we do in your container: we add our tags in a folder named Rambunctious.tv, test them, and publish one version. We never change your existing tags, triggers or variables.
| Permission | Why we ask for it |
|---|---|
| Publish (preferred) | We can test and release our tags without waiting on you, so measurement is ready before launch. |
| Edit (acceptable) | We build and test; you publish the version we send you. Adds a day or two. |
| Read | Not enough. We cannot add tags. |
Path B: no Tag Manager yet
We create a Tag Manager container for you. It is free, you get full admin access, and it stays yours. Your campaign manager sends you the container ID (it looks like GTM-XXXXXXX) and two short code snippets: one for the head of every page, one for the top of the body.
Where to put them, by platform:
| Platform | What to do |
|---|---|
| WordPress | Install a Tag Manager plugin (for example GTM4WP) and paste the container ID. No code editing needed. |
| Shopify | Online Store, Themes, Edit code, open theme.liquid. Paste the head snippet right after the opening head tag and the body snippet right after the opening body tag. |
| Squarespace | Settings, Developer Tools, Code Injection. Head snippet in Header, body snippet in Footer. |
| Wix | Marketing Integrations, Google Tag Manager, paste the container ID. |
| Webflow | Site settings, Custom code. Head snippet in Head code, body snippet in Footer code. Publish the site. |
| GoHighLevel sites and funnels | Site or funnel settings, Tracking code. Head snippet in Header, body snippet in Body. |
| Custom-built site | Head snippet as high as possible inside the head of every page; body snippet right after the opening body tag. Ask your developer to do it on the site template so every page is covered. |
When it is placed, tell your campaign manager in your Campaign Desk. We check from our side that the tag loads on your pages before we go further.
Path C: have us place it for you
If you would rather not touch your site, invite analytics@rambunctious.tv with the access below. Use your platform's invite feature; never send us a password. Remove the access once your campaign manager confirms the tag is live, or leave it for future changes.
| Platform | Access to grant | Where |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress | Administrator (needed to install a plugin) | Users, Add New |
| Shopify | Staff account with the Themes permission | Settings, Users and permissions, Add staff |
| Squarespace | Administrator contributor | Settings, Permissions, Invite contributor |
| Wix | Website Manager role | Settings, Roles and permissions, Invite |
| Webflow | Site collaborator with site settings access | Site settings, Members or Collaborators |
| GoHighLevel | User on the sub-account with site access | Settings, Team |
| Custom-built site | Your developer places it; we send them the snippets and check it afterwards | n/a |
What happens next
Measurement is set up after payment and before launch, usually within one to two business days of getting access or the placed tag.
- Our team adds the TV platform pixels inside Tag Manager: a site pixel on every page (for reporting and retargeting) and a conversion pixel for each action you want counted.
- We test that every pixel fires on the right page or event.
- Your Campaign Desk shows measurement as set up, and your campaign moves to launch.
What we need from you: the actions that matter and where they happen. One line each is enough.
| Action | Where it happens on your site | Value, if known |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase | Order confirmation page | Order total |
| Lead | Form thank-you page or form submit | Optional |
| Booking or call | Confirmation page or click on the call button | Optional |
If you already have Google Ads, Meta or other pixels, nothing changes for them. Ours run alongside.
Common questions
Will this slow my site? Tag Manager loads in the background after the page. The effect on load time is negligible, and it is the same container Google Ads and most analytics tools already use.
What do the pixels collect? Which pages were visited and which of your chosen actions happened, tied to the ad exposure. No names, emails or form contents. Your privacy policy should mention advertising measurement; if yours does not, ask your campaign manager for a sentence to add.
Can I remove it later? Yes. You keep admin access to the container. Pausing or deleting the Rambunctious.tv folder switches our tags off; removing the snippet switches everything off.
I already have a Tag Manager container from another agency. Path A still applies: add us to that container. We work in our own folder and leave theirs alone.
My site is only a landing page or a booking tool. Tell your campaign manager which tool it is. Most hosted tools have a settings field for Tag Manager or a head snippet, and we will send the exact steps.
